Hello, Logistics

Notes on flying:

From what we can tell, return flights from the mainland US to Maui cost about the same as return to Honolulu (airport code HNL) with Maui added as an extra leg (OGG). So if you are thinking of seeing more of Hawai'i, you can see two islands for the price of one!
As for the rest of the world, well, you can check for yourselves. We like to use hipmunk.com to quickly assess the flight options - I just love being able to rank flights by 'agony'.

... on Accommodation:

For those of you making travel plans already, or just thinking about making plans, we recommend vrbo.com as a good starting point for accommodation. The two huge resorts at the north end of the beach are mostly individually owned condos, a great many of which are listed at vrbo.
The resorts are Mana Kai Resort, and Kihei Surfside. So much other accommodation can be found in the area, if you would prefer something a bit smaller or less touristy.

pro tip: find what you like on vrbo, then google the specific house or owner. If they have their own website, chances are their rates are cheaper there than on vrbo.

... and on Getting Around:

A shuttle bus runs from the airport to these resorts, apparently. So if you just want to take it easy and lounge by the beach, some sources suggest you can get away without renting a car. The wedding and reception are walking distance from there too.
On the other hand, there is so much to see and do in Maui, and public transport is, in general, nonexistent. We will have a car. Anyone that fits is welcome to pile in!
