Fun Things! and BRUNCH!

First, and most importantly, I just confirmed that alcohol is ok on Keawakapu beach.

According to the Parks and Rec dude I just spoke to, we can also play music and stay as late as we wish.

There's a 37km/23mile downhill bike ride down a volcano to sea level. We're totally going to do it. Maybe on the morning of the 9th. Who's in?

On Saturday the 8th, you are all invited to brunch! It's at 10:30am at a cafe literally 2 minutes drive up the road from us. I've reserved for everybody, but if mornings aren't your thing, please email us with a NO so I can let the restaurant know ahead of time.

Can I say 'T minus six weeks'?

More on Accommodation

airbnb.com has some bargains for Wailea-Makena and South Kihei - worth a look for accommodation, for sure.

Do you want to save money and share a place with some other great folks? RSVP to us (do that anyway, please! Greg made a link and everything) or leave comments on the blog - we'll make sure to try to connect people who want it.

Things to Do in Maui - 1

There is a well reviewed luau on Thursday nights in Kihei at Polynesian Village. I don't think that's my thing, exactly, but if you have young kids travelling with you, it might be worth a look.

Music!

We're making a playlist of tropical, summery songs for our wedding day. We would love your suggestions/ contributions!

So who are these people, anyway?

Some of you only know one of us, and even then, it may have been a while. This is what we look like, circa July 2012.

Hello, Logistics

Notes on flying:

From what we can tell, return flights from the mainland US to Maui cost about the same as return to Honolulu (airport code HNL) with Maui added as an extra leg (OGG). So if you are thinking of seeing more of Hawai'i, you can see two islands for the price of one!
As for the rest of the world, well, you can check for yourselves. We like to use hipmunk.com to quickly assess the flight options - I just love being able to rank flights by 'agony'.

... on Accommodation:

For those of you making travel plans already, or just thinking about making plans, we recommend vrbo.com as a good starting point for accommodation. The two huge resorts at the north end of the beach are mostly individually owned condos, a great many of which are listed at vrbo.
The resorts are Mana Kai Resort, and Kihei Surfside. So much other accommodation can be found in the area, if you would prefer something a bit smaller or less touristy.

pro tip: find what you like on vrbo, then google the specific house or owner. If they have their own website, chances are their rates are cheaper there than on vrbo.

... and on Getting Around:

A shuttle bus runs from the airport to these resorts, apparently. So if you just want to take it easy and lounge by the beach, some sources suggest you can get away without renting a car. The wedding and reception are walking distance from there too.
On the other hand, there is so much to see and do in Maui, and public transport is, in general, nonexistent. We will have a car. Anyone that fits is welcome to pile in!

A mutually inconvenient location

So it took us a while to find the right place, but now it's for real. We're getting married in Maui!

We decided on a Hawai'i wedding because our families and friends are so spread out across Australia, America and the globe, that there was not a single good place to host a party that the majority of you could get to easily.

So we chose somewhere that is difficult for everyone to get to.

To make up for this, we tried to find the most beautiful place in the world, where we hope you would want to go for a holiday anyway. This blog will be a place to collect and share information about travel to, and around Maui (and also keeping you posted about planned celebrations).

Mahalo!
Diz and Greg.

This is where we'll be!
